Spring Walk This Tuesday (4/26) in Secrest Arboretum

April 21, 2011

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Secrest Arboretum will hold a free public Spring Walk this Tuesday (4/26).

“It’s an update on the changing of the seasons and what’s happening outside,” said Arboretum Program Director Ken Cochran, who will lead it.

“We’ll see what’s in bloom -- forsythias, magnolias, daffodils, lots of the new bulbs we planted last fall after the tornado,” Cochran said. “We’ll mention some of the chores you can be doing at this time of year, whether planting or pruning, and we’ll do some demonstrations as we go along.”

Hours are 2-3:30 p.m. in the arboretum, which is part of Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC), 1680 Madison Ave., in Wooster. Meet at the arboretum’s Seaman Orientation Plaza located about 1.7 miles from the main OARDC entrance.

Both the arboretum and the OARDC campus proper received heavy damage from an EF-2 tornado last September, with about 30 of the arboretum’s 120 acres affected and more than 1,000 trees knocked down.

For more information, call 330-464-2148, e-mail cochran.7@osu.edu, or go to the arboretum’s website, http://secrest.osu.edu/.
