Receive Certified Livestock Manager Training at CTC

January 21, 2010

ADA, Ohio – Livestock producers interested in obtaining a manure management license or who want to learn more about best manure management practices have the opportunity to gain the training they need at Ohio State University's Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is teaming up with conference organizers to offer the Certified Livestock Manager licensing program. It's the first time that the program is being offered at the Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference.

The conference will take place Feb. 25-26 at the McIntosh Center of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The event is sponsored by OSU Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Northwest Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Districts, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Farm Service Agency, and the Ohio No-Till Council.

Agenda and registration information can be found at http://ctc.osu.edu.

"In the past, the Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference and the Certified Livestock Manager program were held separately and always overlapped. This year we decided to pair the Certified Livestock Manager training with the conference to make it more convenient and efficient for those getting certified," said Kevin Elder, director of ODA's Livestock Environmental Permitting Program. "Whether someone is applying for the first time or getting recertified, the Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference offers all of the necessary requirements for completing the training program."

To receive Certified Livestock Manager licensing through ODA, a farmer or custom applicator must attend three "core" training sessions and three "elective" sessions. The Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference is offering 15 sessions over the two days that meet Certified Livestock Manager requirements. Qualified sessions are marked "(CLM)" in the agenda.
