COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University Extension will play a role in educating kids and their parents about how agriculture impacts their lifestyle during COSI's Farm Days: Little Seeds, Big Tractors, being held July 15-19 in Columbus, Ohio.
COSI is bringing the farm to the city for the fifth year for an event that will display more than 25 pieces of farming equipment and teach visitors more about Ohio's No. 1 industry.
Once again the event will showcase "Play the Path of a Farmer" game, where visitors can try managing their own farm as they travel the path of the farmer and learn about the partners and resources needed to be a successful farmer.
"We are going to have a mock Extension office set up at the event as one of the resources that visitors can utilize while playing the game," said Dee Jepsen, OSU Extension's state safety leader. "The purpose of our presence is to teach visitors the importance of Extension's role in helping the farmer make sound management decisions."
During Farm Days, kids can test their driving skills on a pedal tractor obstacle course, milk a (fake) cow, and make a seed necklace. Visitors can also conduct a soil test, participate in a produce market, and view biodiesel and ethanol demonstrations.
