OSU Extension Offers Meat Goat Field Day

June 5, 2008

PLEASANTVILLE, Ohio -- Diversifying and sustaining a forage base to improve health and enhance animal performance will be the focus of an Ohio State University Extension meat goat field day.

Forages for Goats Field Day will be held June 28 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Amazing Graze Boer Goat Farm in Pleasantville, Ohio. Registration is $10 per person and includes lunch, refreshments and workshop materials.

"This event will demonstrate how to diversify your forage base as an effective, economic and sustainable strategy to reduce internal parasites and enhance the performance of meat goats," said Tony Nye, an OSU Extension educator for Clinton County. "The event will feature a walking tour of grazing paddocks and several presentations related to designing holistic systems for meat goats."

Topics covered during the field day include fences, heavy-use pads, composting, water systems, portable housing, de-worming strategies, vaccinations and establishment of cool and warm-season forages.
