Online Newsletter Focuses on Entrepreneurships

June 24, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An online newsletter, targeted to business management, policy-making and entrepreneurship education, is now available through Ohio State University's Farm Income Enhancement Program of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

Agripreneur: Creating Wealth through Food and Agricultural Entrepreneurship is available bi-monthly at http://agripreneur.osu.edu. Interested individuals can subscribe to the newsletter for free through the Web site and be notified of updates via e-mail.

Tom Sporleder, Farm Income Enhancement professor with Ohio State's Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, said that the newsletter is designed to serve the niche market of entrepreneurships and communicate specific information on topics related to small and mid-size business programs and policies.

"There are a number of outreach and research programs and projects at numerous land-grants aimed at entrepreneurship," said Sporleder, one of the coordinators of the newsletter. "Many of these programs are specifically designed to contribute to assisting in commercialization of innovation, yet no real core outlet for documenting the current state of knowledge, especially in value added agriculture entrepreneurship, is available in a user-friendly format."

Topics of interest include raising venture capital, the applied economics of business and business management, steps in the process of starting a new business, and the importance of a business plan.

Ohio State University Extension and Michigan State University Agricultural Products Center are working collaboratively with Ohio State's Farm Income Enhancement Program to maintain the newsletter.
