Ohio State's Wetlands Researcher Given Honor by Chinese University

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Professor William J. Mitsch, director of Ohio State University's Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, was presented with a Certificate for Concurrent Professorship at Nanjing Forestry University in Nanjing, China, on May 5.

This distinction is given occasionally by Nanjing Forestry University to important scientists in the world who do research related to its mission.

The honor was presented by Jianhui Xue, the university's vice president and professor of Forest Ecology.

In announcing the professorship, Jinchi Zhang, dean of the College of Forest Resources and Environment at Nanjing Forestry University, said, "Dr. Mitsch is a distinguished professor at Ohio State University and the wetland expert of the world. It is our pleasure to invite him to be a concurrent professor at Nanjing Forestry University and we are looking forward to future cooperation with him and his university."

During the May 5 event, Mitsch discussed potential future collaborations with his hosts, including participation in EcoSummit 2012, scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 5 in Columbus.
