WOOSTER, Ohio ââ¬â The Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) recently announced the 2010 recipients of the OARDC Family Scholarship Awards and the James and Yvonne Brown Scholarship Awards, given to OARDC employee family members who are pursuing higher education.
ââ¬Â¢ Benjamin King of Orrville, a masterââ¬â¢s degree student in postsecondary technical education at the University of Akron, and Calla Sneller of Wooster, a freshman with a double major in international studies and Spanish at Ohio State University, will each receive $1,000 through the OARDC Family Scholarship Program, open to the dependents of OARDC faculty and staff members at any of the centerââ¬â¢s locations ââ¬â Wooster, Columbus and nine outlying locations.
ââ¬Â¢ Marjorie Lohnes of Wooster, a sophomore with a double major in early childhood education and intervention specialist with reading endorsement at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and Ethan Shriver of Pleasant City, a freshman in animal science with a concentration in beef or swine management at Ohio Stateââ¬â¢s Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI), will each receive $1,000 through the James and Yvonne Brown Scholarship Program, open to the dependents of non-faculty employees at Wooster and the outlying locations.
Both programs help pay for books, tuition and other college costs. An OARDC employee committee selects the recipients based on their educational goals, academic record and related criteria.
King is the husband of Kelly King, plant materials specialist, Research Operations, Wooster.
Sneller is the daughter of Clay Sneller, associate professor, Horticulture and Crop Science, Wooster, and his wife, Sharon.
Lohnes is the daughter of Dave Lohnes, web developer, Information Technology, Wooster, and his wife, Donna.
Shriver is the son of Wayne Shriver, manager, Eastern Agricultural Research Station, Caldwell, and his wife, Krista.
The OARDC Directorââ¬â¢s Office and employee donations to Ohio Stateââ¬â¢s Campus Campaign fund the Family Scholarship program.
A donation by former OARDC associate director and retired forestry professor James Brown and his wife, Yvonne, created the scholarship program that bears their names.
OARDC is the research arm of Ohio Stateââ¬â¢s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and is the largest university agbioscience research center in the United States.
