PIKETON, Ohio – The irrigation demonstration and training unit of Ohio State University South Centers at Piketon will be featured at the upcoming OSU South Centers Horticulture Field Night Aug. 13.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with registration with the program following at 6 p.m. Dinner at 8:30 p.m. will wrap up the event. Registration is $10 per person. OSU South Centers is located at 1864 Shyville Road, Piketon, Ohio.
A fertilizer injection demonstration, new to the irrigation demonstration and training unit, will be showcased at the event. The demo will feature technology that is practiced in Israel, designed to acquaint and train growers on using the latest Israeli micro irrigation technology and equipment. In addition to the fertilizer injection demonstration, the irrigation unit will also feature drip irrigation. The irrigation demonstration and training unit is sponsored by the Cleveland-based Ohio-Israel Agricultural Initiative (OIAI) of The Negev Foundation.
Other topics being covered during the Horticulture Field Night include heirloom tomato research, strawberry production, primocane-bearing blackberry trials, a vineyard tour, and a pumpkin trial update.
Ohio State University Extension specialists presenting at the event include horticulturist Brad Bergefurd, horticulturist Shawn Wright, and bioenergy and specialty crops specialist Maurus Brown.
