Micki Zartman Scarlet and Gray Ag Day to Recognize, Inspire Superheroes in Our Fields

April 13, 2012

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The 2012 Micki Zartman Scarlet and Gray Ag Day, Superheroes in Our Fields, will showcase the impact that agricultural professionals have on the world.

Scarlet and Gray Ag Day will be held Friday, April 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Ohio State University's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences campus in Columbus. The one-day educational outreach program strives to educate central Ohio elementary students about agriculture through hands-on laboratory activities.

This year’s sessions range from microbiology and biotechnology to food nutrition and quality control. Sessions will be taught by Ohio State faculty and staff, commodity leaders, student organizations, and Ohio State students who share a passion for both agriculture and service.

Nearly 650 elementary school students from Brookside Elementary, Central College Christian Academy, Fairbanks Elementary, Homeschool Association, Olentangy Meadows Schools, Ridgemont Elementary, Summit Road STEM Elementary, and Winchester Trail Elementary will participate in this year’s Scarlet and Gray Ag Day. As a service project, students will be packaging food, donated by college faculty and staff and area grocery stores, for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank during their participation at Ag Day.
