LONDON, Ohio -- Managing pesky weeds, understanding nitrogen rates, improving soybean management and effectively applying manure will be the topics of interest at the Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) College being held at Ohio State University's Farm Science Review.
The event, in its second year, will take place Sept. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is $70 and includes breakfast, lunch, program materials, an entry ticket to Farm Science Review and a parking pass. Registration deadline is Sept. 8. Registration is limited to 120 participants. There will be no registration the day of the event.
The CCA College, hosted by Ohio State University's Agronomic Crops Team, will feature specialists from OSU Extension and Purdue University Extension.
OSU Extension weed scientist Jeff Stachler and Purdue Extension weed scientist Bill Johnson will discuss the problem of resistant weeds throughout Ohio and Indiana; OSU Extension soil fertility specialist Robert Mullen and Purdue Extension fertility specialist Jim Camberato will walk participants through the specifics of nitrogen fertilizer rates; OSU Extension soybean and small grain specialist Jim Beuerlein will focus on soybean management for pod fill; and OSU Extension agricultural engineering specialist Jon Rausch, Frank Gibbs from U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Purdue Extension agronomist Brad Joern will discuss the water-holding capacity for manure applications.
CCA-CEU credits will be available to those in attendance. OSU Extension, Ag Answers and Ohio State's Crops and Soils Club are sponsoring the event.

Farm Science Review is sponsored by Ohio State University Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, and the academic units of the university's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. It takes place Sept. 19-21 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center near London, Ohio. Tickets are $8 at the gate or $5 in advance when purchased from county offices of OSU Extension or participating agribusinesses. Children 5 and younger are admitted free.
