Free Workshop to Teach Ohio Businesses How to Access OSU Resources

May 17, 2010

PIKETON, Ohio – When it comes to business development and economic progress, Ohio State University is chock-full of resources, tools, technology and expertise, and a free event on May 27 will teach Ohio businesses and entrepreneurs how to access and use what the university has to offer.

The Ohio State University Technology Expo will be held at OSU South Centers at Piketon, 1864 Shyville Road, Piketon, Ohio. The event will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The expo is designed to teach businesses and individuals how they can work with Ohio State University to develop a new technology, enhance an existing technology or incorporate a current technology or product into their business models.

"We are extremely excited about the event and look forward to learning about the knowledge and expertise of the Ohio State University faculty," said Ryan Mapes, director of OSU South Centers Small Business Development Center for Region 7. "This is a great opportunity for businesses and entrepreneurs in the area to network as well as gain a more in-depth understanding of the commercialization process and how to utilize the OSU campus as a resource for developing or licensing technology."

Faculty from Ohio State's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and the College of Engineering will be on-hand to give presentations about available technology and research capabilities. The Ohio State University Office of Research Technology Licensing & Commercialization will provide information about the licensing process. In addition, there will be presentations about commercialization and utilizing university resources.

The breakout sessions will be offered at three different times during the day -- 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.—so participants can choose which sessions to attend at which times. The event will include a networking lunch as well as technology displays and posters.

The Technology Expo is sponsored by Ohio Third Frontier, the Ohio Small Business Development Center, the Ohio Manufacturing and Technology Small Business Development Center, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
