Free Food Guide Promotes Local Products, Local Businesses

May 25, 2010

DELAWARE, Ohio – Central Ohio residents looking for local food products produced by local farmers and sold by local businesses now have access to a free food guide created by Ohio State University Extension Delaware County Master Gardeners.

"Delaware Harvest" showcases locally grown products that can be found in Delaware County and surrounding communities, such as Sunbury, Powell, Westerville, Worthington, Marysville, Clintonville, Urbana, Richwood, Johnstown, Mt. Gilead, Marion, Plain City, Radnor, Ostrander, Ashley and Columbus.

"We hope that the guide will encourage shopping more locally and connecting consumers and producers," said Susan Liechty, an OSU Extension Master Gardener volunteer.

The publication contains a list of area farmers' markets, Community Shared Agriculture (CSAs) and tree farms, as well as local businesses that sell such products as meat, fish, poultry, produce, specialty products, honey and syrup, cheese and wine.

The guide can be found at http://www.delaware.osu.edu, and is also available at local nurseries, farmers' markets and retail shops. For more information, contact Susan Liechty at herbsdel@aol.com.
