Farm Financial Management Topics Highlighted at Farm Science Review

LONDON, Ohio – From dairy management to estate planning to ag law issues, farm financial management will be a hot topic at this year's Ohio State University Farm Science Review.

 

Visitors looking for ways to better manage their farm business can find information and talk to Ohio State University Extension specialists throughout the three-day event in the Firebaugh Building, located on Friday Avenue on the exhibitor grounds.

Farm Science Review, Ohio's premiere farm show, will be held Sept. 22-24 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio.

"Despite input costs and fertilizer costs coming down recently, farmers still have to make on-farm decisions," said Barry Ward, an OSU Extension economist and production business management leader. "We hope visitors to Farm Science Review take some time to stop by the Firebaugh Building and utilize the expertise of our specialists to help them better manage their farm. The dairy industry, in particular, is still a challenge for many farmers because of high feed costs."

Specialists on-hand in the Firebaugh Building to offer information and answer questions include: Jim Skeeles, an OSU Extension educator in agriculture and natural resources; Chris Zoller, an OSU Extension educator in agriculture and natural resources; Dianne Shoemaker, an OSU Extension dairy specialist; Peggy Hall, director of OSU Extension's Agricultural and Resource Law Program; and Tony Nye; an OSU Extension educator in agriculture and natural resources.

The specialists will discuss such topics as estate planning, transitioning the farm, best dairy financial management practices, ag law issues, land values, custom rates and cash rents.

Farm Science Review is sponsored by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Ohio State University Extension, and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. It attracts upwards of 140,000 visitors from all over the country and Canada, who come for three days to peruse 4,000 product lines from 600 commercial exhibitors, and learn the latest in agricultural research, conservation, family and nutrition, and gardening and landscape.

Tickets are $8 at the gate or $5 in advance when purchased from county offices of OSU Extension or participating agribusinesses. Children 5 and younger are admitted free. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22-23 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24.
