Chestnuts Roasting in Eastern Ohio: See Them Aug. 13

August 1, 2011

CARROLLTON, Ohio -- Eastern Ohio’s Route 9 Cooperative, the biggest chestnut packing facility in the U.S., will host a free tour on Aug. 13 as part of the 2011 Ohio Sustainable Farm Tour and Workshop Series.

Hours are 2-4 p.m. at 4300 Germano Rd. SE in Carrollton, about 25 miles southeast of Canton. Admission is free and open to the public. Pre-registration isn’t necessary.

Featured will be the operation’s extensive chestnut orchards and behind-the-scenes details on producing and selling chestnuts. Route 9 may expand, too, into produce auctions, poultry harvest, and fruit and vegetable processing.

For more information, call Greg Miller at 330-627-3541.

Six organizations, including Ohio State University’s Sustainable Agriculture Team, are presenting the Sustainable Farm Tour series.
