COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University's Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens will be hosting its annual Open House event on Sunday, July 19, and the public is invited to attend.
The free event, taking place from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., will showcase the arboretum's garden collection and provide a wide range of activities for both adults and children. Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens is located on the Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences' campus in Columbus, Ohio, just east of State Route 315 at Fyffe Court and Woody Hayes Drive.
Open House activities will include:
- Hourly tours of annuals trials and perennial gardens.
- Ice cream social.
- Meet and greet with faculty and staff from the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, Franklin County Master Gardener volunteers and Chadwick Arboretum volunteers.
- Hosta auction by the Central Ohio Hosta Society.
- Tours of the Ornamental Plant and Germplasm Center.
- Hand tool sharpening by Sharpening on Site.
- Rain barrel painting by Gene Tolliver.
- Storytelling.
- C. Wayne Ellett Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic insect displays.
- Music in the gardens.
- Garden store.
Chadwick Arboretum consists of three main areas: Learning Gardens, Lane Avenue Gardens and Arboretum North. The Open House will mainly feature collections from the Learning Gardens, an area of perennials, annuals, wildflowers, pansies, bamboo, and rare bulb and dwarf conifers.
