September 8, 2010

LONDON, Ohio – The Certified Crop Adviser program at Ohio State University's Farm Science Review is one way crop consultants can receive their yearly complement of continuing education credits.

The CCA College will be held on Sept. 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will cover a wide variety of topics related to conservation programs, corn hybrids, fungicide applications, and nitrogen fertilizer management. Farm Science Review will take place Sept. 21-23 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio.

Registration is $80 and includes breakfast, lunch, program materials, an entry ticket to Farm Science Review and a parking pass. Registration deadline is Sep. 10. Registration is limited and there will be no registration the day of the event.

Harold Watters, an Ohio State University Extension educator, said that the CCA College is specifically tailored to CCAs not only in Ohio, but also across the Midwest.

"Things in agriculture are constantly changing. What new information was introduced five years ago may no longer be valid," said Watters. "CCAs crave the newest, latest and greatest that will have an impact on them and their customers not only right now, but for tomorrow as well. The program offered at Farm Science Review provides them with that useful information."

The CCA program begins on the Farm Science Review exhibit grounds at Beef Street, between Land and Soybean streets. Parking is available in the Exhibitor Parking area at the west end of the grounds. Enter through Gate J and cross Beef Street to the Vice President's Tent. Breakfast is from 7:20 a.m. to 8 a.m. and the program begins at promptly at 8 a.m.

Speakers include Mark Scarpitti from U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service; Ohio State University Extension specialists Pierce Paul, Peter Thomison and Robert Mullen, who are also scientists with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center; and Purdue University specialists Kiersten Weise and Jim Camberato.

The program will also include field activities of demonstration plots covering the results of such trials as disease management, fungicide applications and hybrid demonstrations between tilled and no-till corn.

In addition to the CCA College, crop consultants can receive continuing education credits by attending various educational sessions being offered during Farm Science Review. For more information, log on to http://bit.ly/cJQ3IU.
