Chow Line: Cubing spuds saves time, cuts nutrients (for 12/7/08) |
I have a recipe that calls for mashed potatoes. It suggests cubing the potatoes before boiling them, to save time. Wouldn't the potatoes lose a lot of nutrients that way? |

Chow Line: Count up fat, calories for chicken with skin (for 2/28/10) |
I was at a friend's for dinner and she served chicken breast – with the skin on. It was tender and delicious, but I've always had skinless chicken breast because I thought the skin contained a lot of fat and calories. Is there that much of a difference? |

I was making soup in the slow cooker but forgot to plug it in. After five hours, I realized what happened and cooked the soup, which included cooked chicken, on high for five more hours. I thought it would be OK, but my wife said no and threw it out. Who was right?

I read about a recent study that said walking 10,000 steps a day could help people manage blood sugar. Is it because walking that much helps you lose weight, or is it the exercise itself that is helpful?

Do broccoli and cauliflower offer similar nutrients? My husband says they do, but I think he just doesn’t like broccoli. (I prefer broccoli over cauliflower, so I might be biased, too.)
